Tonight, I’m taking you to La Général, a Brussels bistro transformed into a Mexican taqueria.
Here, every detail has been carefully thought of, especially the decor, which has been curated piece by piece. We’re particularly in love with the large poster of sun-faded palm trees, the paintings of Mexican wrestlers, and the enormous bouquets of flowers—more real than real. It’s only Tuesday night, but the restaurant is packed, and the atmosphere is already buzzing.
We kick off with an incredible mezcal margarita, followed by the Pica pica, delightful shared appetizers. A standout is the sea bream ceviche (€16), perfectly balanced. Next up, mussels and salsa Roja (€16), delicious and served with homemade fries and spicy mayo. The al pastor tacos are a bit on the dry side, but all in all, we’re super pleased with the evening.
We wrap up with churros, paired with cardamom mascarpone and pomegranate-hibiscus syrup (€7), giving us more of an Indian dessert vibe, but holding their own quite well. Before you leave, we recommend a quick peek at the restrooms, where the decoration is just as fantastic as the rest.
