Moni means “now” in Italian. Sandra, the owner, tells us that it’s with that spirit in mind that with her partner, they decided to open the restaurant. They wanted a place where anyone would feel home, right here, right now. It’s her partner Francesco who runs the kitchen, after having gone through some of the most renowned restaurants of Italy, among which Gualtiero Marchesi’s, famous for giving his three Michelin stars back
The cuisine is directly inspired from the southern region of Puglia, centered around seasonal produce and pushed a step further to create perfectly balanced flavor combinations. For starters, the pumpkin soup with smoked mozzarella cheese (15€) is topped with bottarga (dried and salted fish roe), giving it a delicious and inspired twist. For mains, you’ll come here for the whole octopus, the hit of the house. After having simmered for hours in tomato sauce, it is served whole with crushed wheat and chicory. Worth the trip just by itself.
If the dishes are worth the while, you could not possibly miss on the desserts. The poached pear with Primitivo, a typical wine from Puglia, served with its salted caramel ice-cream is a must. So it the frozen ginger soufflé, served with dark chocolate sauce and Jamaican pepper.
Moni is a real gem that you will love to share. A place you’ll want to run to with no hesitation, knowing you’ll always be warmly welcomed by Sandra, and perfectly cared for by Francesco. Reservations highly recommended.
